WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY of FAFSA 

WHO – We encourage everyone to file the FAFSA form, regardless of family income.

 

WHAT – The newly updated online application to be considered for any aid offered by the federal government, state, or university.

 

WHERE – File the FAFSA form online at studentaid.gov.

 

WHEN – Be sure to file before April 15.

 

WHY – It maximizes your ability to fund your education through federal and state grants, loans, work-study funds, and potential gift aid at Valpo.

 
Stop 1

Plan and prepare. 

There are a couple things you can do to prepare before you begin.

Create your own federal student aid (FSA) ID username and password, and have any contributor create their own as well, which could mean a parent, stepparent, or spouse. Each FSA ID will serve as an electronic signature and go-ahead for the transfer of tax information.

Next, gather the information and documents you’ll need handy while filling out the FAFSA form, like social security numbers (SSNs), tax returns, and driver's license numbers.

Stop 2

Fill out and file the FAFSA.

When you’re ready, log into fafsa.gov to fill out the 2024-25 FAFSA form. It takes most people less than one hour to complete.

Apply for admission.

If you haven’t already, submit your application to Valpo! It’s quick, there’s no cost to apply, and test scores and letters of recommendation are not required. You’ll be automatically considered for scholarships up to $31,000 and will receive an admission decision in a few weeks.

What is next?

Our Office of Financial Aid will use the information you provide on the FAFSA form to determine your eligibility for financial aid. Within a few weeks, you’ll receive a financial aid offer and informational documents to understand your financial aid offer from Valpo.
